I checked on previous year's weather at the start of October and without fail, the first week is hot, winds drop and no sign of rain. This year is no exception and yesterday we had a scorcher max 34 degrees and no wind and definitely no rain.
I have been visiting a variety of medical personell over September so have not been posting as I should have.
We have joined forces with a company Living Food Gardens who produce absolutely 100 % organic produce. Their variety of veggies and herbs is wonderful and adds to my basic produce. i now deliver into Pmb every second week to a group of 11 people who take my chickens and the new vegetable array.
I hope this will become weekly as it will add income to a very quiet chicken sales position. I worry that my local customer base offtake has shrunk by almost 50% this last month, and I guess it is disposable income and the trade union goings on in South Africa at present.
New veg plantings now consist of
Sweet Corn
potatoes
patty pans (mini pumpkins)
squash
turnips
beetroot
carrots
spring onions
radish
spinach
not a bad spread for the farm this year.
